Do you remember back when the lockdown started, everyone was baking bread?
It seems like in the height of a global pandemic, everyone and their cat had a sourdough starter.
Thinking about it now I do feel a little bit left out because I never got on the bread train. Instead of spending hours and hours over a ball of dough, that probably would never proof, I was ordering yarn and wool and any sort of string I could find so I could start to learn to crochet.
Learning to crochet became a form of ADHD therapy for me. For whatever reason, the moment I pick up a crochet hook, the part of my brain that talks non stop turns off completely, and I can un-focus! I could lose track of time (which was quite nice during lockdown) and make scarves and hats, and… well that’s pretty much all I made at the start.
But like those people who now have jars and jars of sourdough starter I have baskets and bookshelves full of yarn, un finished projects, sewing needles, knitting needles, crochet hooks, tapestry needles, any sort of thing I need to make someone a handmade scarf or a crochet sweater for the holidays.
Here are some of the projects I’ve recently started!
This super cute little crop top (pattern)
This very groovy mushroom tote bag (pattern)
And arguably the easiest thing in the world, a granny square vest. (pattern)
I plan on being that old granny who, every holiday season, whips you up a handmade sweater, a pair of socks and a new scarf. Next thing I need to learn is knitting… but that looks hard so maybe I’ll just stick with crochet hahaha
I want to know what hobby did you pick up during lockdown and maybe have continued to do. Are you one of those folks with jars and jars of sourdough starter?
Let me know in the comments! (also let me know if you want a scarf <3 )
