As someone who has lost family members to Cancer, watching them not only go through that, but still have to do (what we would call) menial tasks like driving is CRAZY to me.
My grandpa lived out in the bush in Northern Alberta and would drive 3 hours to the city to go to his treatment appointments.
I was living in the Yukon at the time and couldn’t come down to help, but I would have loved to know that a service was available to help him.
Lo and behold, there is!
The Canadian Cancer Society’s Wheels of hope is changing the way people deal with Cancer, by taking a step out of their journey.
They enlist a team of volunteer drivers to help get folks to and from their treatment appointments.
That’s right! VOLUNTEERS! These people do this out of the kindness of their hearts. They are heroes.
Wheels of Hope is currently looking for drivers in Port Alberni, as well as across Vancouver Island.
If you want to step up and take a little bit off the backs of someone dealing with Cancer, please consider wheels of hope.
