Today is Deputy Fire Chief Wes Patterson’s last day of work before retirement.
The well-liked firefighter has been with the Port Alberni Fire Department for 8 years after moving here from Northern BC
Fire Chief Mike Owens said Patterson’s experience has been invaluable
“He’s been someone that I’ve been able to confide in and bounce ideas off of, just a wealth of experience with those 40 years of fire service and he’ll certainly be missed around here,” he said.
Local hero Travis Cross will take over as deputy chief after rising through the ranks of the fire department over the past 18 years.
Patterson said he and his wife plan to remain in Port Alberni.
