Cameron Lake fire grows; firefighter injured

The Cameron Lake fire was helped by cooler temperatures and higher relative humidity but still grew over the weekend.
According to the latest update posted yesterday at 5:30 pm, the now 254 hectare fire is still listed as out of control, but fire behavior is decreased and is currently a smoldering ground fire with some open flame.
76 firefighters are attacking from the flanks while 4 helicopters hit the hard to reach areas, and 10 pieces of heavy equipment have been brought in as well.

After a week of Highway 4 being closed, Pilot vehicles are guiding commercial service vehicles carrying essential goods along the unpaved Bamfield Road detour route.
B-C’s transportation ministry enlisted the pilot vehicles to lead convoys of large trucks and other commercial vehicles along the winding, narrow backroad to supply Port Alberni, Ucluelet and Tofino.
The ministry says it will include private vehicles in the guided convoys, but recommends essential travel only until further notice.
