A team of UBC researchers are studying our response to the January tsunami event.
Dr. Ryan Reynolds from UBC’s school for community and regional planning, says they have started a door-to-door campaign among homes in the inundation zone, and offering an online survey as well.
He and his research assistant will be knocking on doors until Tuesday, and the online survey at www.tsunamiresearch.ca will be up until the end of the month.
The study is funded by the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction – a research agency funded by insurance companies.
Reynolds, who did his PhD work here 3 years ago looking into emergency preparedness in Port Alberni, hopes the results of the study will assist city and regional district emergency planners on both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts.
