Alberni District Teachers Union president Ken Zydyk is hopeful the new NDP Government will improve the lives of BC teachers.
Premier John Horgan spoke at the BC Teachers Union annual convention yesterday, and Zydyk says the speech was much more positive than they’re used to.
Horgan told the B-C Teachers that his government wants to replace the “one-size-fits-all” funding formula for school districts that was brought in by the previous Liberal government, and bring in a system that accounts for differences in urban and rural communities.
Zydyk says he’s especially hopeful as the BCTF heads into bargaining soon.
The teachers contract with the government expires in June of next year.
