City Council will be taking a hard look at crime today, looking at strategies to combat recent increases in criminal activity in the South Port area.
The issue will be part of a Committee of the Whole meeting, which council have implemented as a way to have deeper discussions and debate outside of regular city council meetings.
Mayor Mike Ruttan said there are a lot of things the city can do to fight crime, but it’s a matter of budget and resources.
The Committee of the Whole will also be discussing options for a $200,000 bike path along Stamp Avenue, as well as a new model for Arts, Culture and Heritage projects in the city.
The public meeting is in council chambers starting at 3:30 this afternoon.
