A 20-year old Port Alberni man facing his first charges as an adult has been sent to jail for almost 2 years.
Michael Martin plead guilty to robbing the 7-11 on Third Avenue twice this past summer, and had a history of similar crimes as a youth.
Judge Ronald Webb said Martin had a horrific history of violence and addiction, as was a significant risk of re-offending.
On June 28th Martin passed a note to a cashier at 7-11 saying he was armed and wanted money and cigarettes.
On July 14th he made a similar request, but apologized repeatedly to the clerk while continuing with the robbery.
Crown Counsel Neil Bennett said the robberies are believed to have played a role in the store’s closure last month.
