Preparing for Winter on Vancouver Island!

I had to turn my heat on for the first time last night. That’s always a momentous occasion for me. It means, we are officially approaching winter.

I have no experience with island life in the winter times and I’m lookin’ for clues on how to prepare!!

For context,

I am an Albertan gal, born and raised, BUT I did move to the Yukon and I spent a fair amount of time in Ontario. BOTH of those places claimed to have the “worst winters in Canada”. I’ve also talked to a few people from Port Alberni, and as you might have guessed, they said the same thing.

I am going into this winter expecting rain and snow, but is it really that bad?
