Port Alberni R-C-M-P say a man has died after being stabbed in the apartments above the Port Pub on Argyle Street.
Neighbours identified the man as Johnny Sorenson, who is known within the street community as ‘Tree’.
Police say they were called to reports of a stabbing on Friday afternoon to find Sorenson suffering from serious injuries, and died despite the efforts of first responders and bystanders.
They say officers have identified a suspect and are actively seeking his arrest.
Investigators believe the fatal stabbing was an isolated incident and that both parties knew each other.
The Port Alberni RCMP major crime unit is now leading the investigation.
