Pathologist testifies at trial

The Samantha Dittmer murder trial got underway yesterday, with BC’s lead forensic pathologist Dr. Elizabeth Brooks-Lim.

Dittmer is accused of shooting her son Jesse McPhee in their 18th Avenue home on August 29, 2021

During her autopsy of McPhee, Brooks-Lim determined that he died instantly of a gunshot wound to the chest, and the muzzle of the gun was pressed up against him when it went off.

She said the bullet went through his heart, lung and all the major blood vessel causing devastating trauma and near intantaneous death.

Police later found the rifle used in the shooting, under Ms. Dittmer’s bed.

The supreme court juried trial continues today.
