Preliminary Inquiry launched

Three people are facing dozens of serious charges after a Boxing Day melee last year.

David Bird, Shae Doiron and Meghan Ingram are charged with Robbery, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon and many other charges after an alleged machete attack on a group of people inside a 3rd Avenue apartment.

Bird was on probation at the time after serving a 4-year sentence for kidnapping and savagely beating a man with a stamp hammer in 2018.

He evaded arrest until April when an RCMP Tactical Team descended on a Tyee Motel suite in April, and has remained in jail ever since.

Yesterday a Preliminary Inquiry began to determine if there was enough evidence on the serious charges to move forward with a trial. Details from the hearing are protected by a publication ban.
