Highway 4 closed by fire

Smoke has drifted into the Alberni Valley from the Cameron Bluff fire, which grew exponentially yesterday, going from 25 to 109 hectares.
Coastal Fire Centre Information Officer Kim Kelly says they’re throwing resources at if from the ground and the air.
“Crews worked on direct attack objectives overnight. Some of the fire is located in steep terrain so we have three helicopters bucketing in inaccessible areas. We are assigning air tankers and skimmers to this incident,” she said.
The fire moved both up and down the slope yesterday, and reports of burning trees and boulders coming down the hill prompted the closure of Highway 4 yesterday afternoon, stranding hundreds of motorists on either side of Cameron Lake.
Drive BC says their next update will happen at 9 this morning, and the Coastal Fire Centre will report on current conditions after 10.
