10th Avenue changes after fatalities

City crews will begin working on a pair of 10th Avenue intersections that are being improved for pedestrian safety.
The intersections of 10th and Dunbar and 10th and Redford have been the sites of pedestrian deaths, and have been identified as top priorities by ICBC
Mayor Sharie Minions said work will begin soon.
“We take those intersections very seriously and want to make improvements to them as quickly as possible,” she said. “Phase two of that is some larger improvements that will come with some bigger traffic pattern changes. Those are not fully identified yet and will come back to public and council as the plans are developed.”
Minions said pedestrian lights and more street lights will be installed over the next few weeks.
Staff will then begin planning for the removal of the left hand turning lane onto Dunbar Street, and how that will affect commercial truck traffic, possibly leading to the installation of stoplights or a roundabout at 10th and Argyle.
