A back-alley garbage fire set off smoke alarms this morning in the Merit furniture warehouse on Third Avenue.
Port Alberni Fire Department crews traced the smoke to a gap in the floorboards on the inside of the wall where a small fire had been lit in a rear doorway.
The basement area of the warehouse was quickly aerated. No word on any damages yet.
Other businesses in the Third Avenue area have been complaining lately about garbage fires being lit behind their buildings.
Police and fire are investigating.
