City Council is looking to streamline its regular meetings by dropping the public input session that happens at the beginning of council meetings.
The public input session will be moved to Committee of the Whole meetings, which Mayor Sharie Minions says is a better place for them.
“The intent of Committee of the Whole is to allow more community engagement, to be able to hear from members of the public earlier in the process before an item comes for adoption, we want members of the public to engage at the input and development phase so we’re able to take their concerns into account before we make a decision,” she said.
Minions said the public input sessions will allow up to 6 speakers to talk for 5 minutes on any issue, an increase from 4 speakers given 3 minutes.
There are 21 scheduled regular council meetings this year, and 9 Committee of the Whole meetings, but Minions said more COW meetings can be added.
