Two people were treated for smoke inhalation and have been displaced from their apartment after an early morning fire at the Port Pub.
Port Alberni Deputy Fire Chief Wes Patterson said it started in a couch.
“The occupants helped extinguish and contain it by using portable extinguishers that were readily available,” he said. “Damage was confined to the suite itself.”
The fire call came in shortly after 3:30 this morning through 9-1-1 and not through the building’s alarm system, which Patterson says will be part of their investigation today.
Argyle Street was blocked off for an hour with all Valley fire departments in attendance along with police, ambulance, BC Hydro and emergency services crews.
