31-year old Nathan Mearns was sentenced to 15 months in jail yesterday, after pleading guilty to a series of thefts.
On November 9th of last year, Mearns told the clerk at the Circle K store on Johnston that he had a gun and demanded the cash from the till.
He took off with just $70 but was quickly caught by the RCMP K9 unit.
He was also caught trying to steal a cordless drill from Walmart before being tackled behind the store by a Loss Prevention Officer, and was caught on camera taking several items from the 7-11 on Johnston, and was also convicted of three counts of driving while prohibited from 2021.
Mearns blamed drug addiction as the reason for the crimes, and Judge Ronald Lamperson recommended he be placed in the Guthrie House rehabilitation unit at the Nanaimo Correctional Centre.
