Sproat Lake development in flux

Owners and neighbours of Sproat Lake Landing are no closer to an answer about a lakeshore development that would see the construction of fifteen 2-bedroom cottages.
After multiple community meetings and two public forums, regional district directors were supposed to decide on the project during third reading of the bylaw yesterday.
Sproat Lake Area Director Penny Cote said neighbouring property owners cited issues around water quality, sewage, and traffic as reasons to oppose the development.
“I would love to support this,” she said. “I would love to see more tourism at Sproat Lake but this is not the location to do it and the residents who live there have brought up every valid reason why it shouldn’t.”
Directors debated the issues for 45 minutes before a deadlocked vote to defeat the proposal, then voted against continuing with third reading.
