In Cherry Creek, residents in the Maebelle Road area are concerned one property owner is putting in too many small houses.
Brett Von Brendl wants to subdivide his property and build small A-frame houses for tourists.
Ken Wilson says that goes against the community plan that determines lot size and density in order to preserve the rural lifestyle for everyone.
“This kind of business in a rural neightbourhood, you guys [ACRD] should tell more people because it’s going to affect other people if this precedent is set,” he said. “We’ve got no problem with a subdivision, but when you get a ‘for-rental’ place and it’s probably going to be year-round, and there’s probably going to be campfires, and yes he’s goung to thry to police it as best he can. I know what happens and it doesn’t work. I’m totally against that part.”
The issue will be brought back to the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District for debate and discussion on April 22nd
