Increased GST rebates arrive today

An increased GST rebate will land in people’s bank accounts today.

A bill introduced by the Liberal government to temporarily double the rebate became law last month with unanimous support from opposition parties.

Courtenay – Alberni MP Gord Johns says the NDP pressured the Trudeau government to double GST payments to help battle inflation.

“This is something that Conservatives were railing against just months ago and the Liberals six months ago, and they all voted in support of this measure and this bill that we brought forward, so we’re glad to see them come to their senses in making sure that we provide relief for the people who need help the most,” he said.

Johns said his party is also pushing the Liberals to fund dental care for families in need, and help homeowners facing difficulties because of rising interest rates.
