MP Johns “disappointed” in economic statement

The federal government delivered its fall economic statement yesterday — a document pledging tax credits for clean electricity and low-emitting hydrogen production.
Courtenay – Alberni MP Gord Johns says he’s disappointed there was no additional funding for growing problems related to mental health and addictions.
“It’s really dissappointed that the Fall Economic Statement doesn’t include new funding for mental health, and it raises the question if the government has any intention of following through with its promised mental health transfer,” he said. “There’s no new funding in the Fall Economic Statement to address the toxic drug crisis despite rising deaths, especially here in the Alberni Valley, and our ineffective approach to mental health and substance use.”
Johns said he was hoping the Liberals would agree with the NDP in removing GST from home heating oil and other measures to battle rising inflation.
The Trudeau Liberal’s fall economic statement projects a 36.4-billion-dollar deficit for the current fiscal year while  forecasting a budget surplus of 4.5-billion-dollars during the 2027-28 fiscal year.
