Paper Excellence, who recently purchased the Port Alberni paper mill, is fast becoming a new forestry giant according to an article in Business in Vancouver magazine.
Owned by Indonesian businessman Jackson Widjaja, the company started in 2007 with the purchase of a bankrupt paper mill in Saskatchewan, and now owns more than two dozen pulp, paper, and packaging mills and 17 sawmills in Canada and the US along with mills in France and Brasil.
Paper Excellence bought Resolute Forest Products this week for $3.7 billion, after buying Domtar last year for $4 billion, and analysts say the company will soon rival West Fraser as North America’s largest forestry company.
