60th City Council convenes for last meeting

The 60th Port Alberni city council came together for the last time yesterday, before the newly elected council begins their term.

Mayor Sharie Minions thanked the four outgoing council members for their hard work and dedication to the city.

“We had to take on some really big decisions,” she said. “The Somass Sawmill early-on I said that I didn’t want to do that with a 4-3 majority. We wanted to move forward on big decisions together. We took the time to get to agreement where everybody felt buy-in to how we moved forward, and I think we worked together really respectfully and that really made the term for me.”

Minions said she’s looking forward to working with the new council members and developing priorities for the next 4 years.

The new council will be sworn in on November 7th before their first meeting on November 14th.
