Fires doused in Dry Creek Park

Port Alberni firefighters are seeing an increase in calls to douse fires in Dry Creek Park
Yesterday morning, someone walking the trails spotted smoke and called the fire department
Deputy Fire Chief Wes Patterson said the fire was in a particularily dangerous place.
“It is quite concerning, especially when it’s at the base of a hill,” said Patterson. “Fire travels uphill quite rapidly in the right conditions when you get the wind happening, and it wouldn’t take much to get everything going and create real problems for the community.”
Patterson says there have also been fire calls to Roger Creek Park and multiple backyard burns, which remain prohibited.
