Low-barrier housing approved

A new low-barrier housing project has been approved for the Bread of Life Centre on Third Avenue.

The 25-bed facility has been under construction for the past month, funded by BC Housing.

Yesterday, City Council debated giving the facility a temporary use permit, which councillor Ron Paulson opposed

“My thing is around location,” he said. “It’s on Third Avenue which is one of our main commercial streets, and I’m not sure if that’s the appropriate place for it. I don’t deny that we need a place for people who are sleeping rough in doorways, but I just don’t know about the appropriateness of the site.”

After a lengthy discussion, council voted to give the facility a 3-year temporary use permit.
