Ditidaht evicts protesters

Leaders from the Ditidaht Nation were flanked by Chiefs and leaders from neighbouring Huu-ay-aht and Pacheedaht First Nations in evicting campers at an illegal blockade.
Ditidaht Chief Councillor Brian Tate said the protesters disrespected protocols by not talking to Ditidaht chiefs or leaders before blockading a main logging road in the Walbran Valley.
“You’ve erected barricades without consent,” he said. “We have a right as First Nations people of this traditional territory to decide what happens within it. We kindly ask you to pack up, clean up your mess and leave.”
Protesters, who spoke to the leaders with their faces covered, claimed to have the support of a few Ditidaht Elders.
Tate, supported by Ditidaht security and RCMP members asked the protesters to dismantle their camp and leave.
