Fire crews douse two fires

Two fire crews were called out to douse a fire in a train car alongside harbour road last night.

With no obvious heat source in the former crew car, the fire is considered suspicious, as the area shows signs of being a hub for drug use.

As crews were leaving harbour road, Fire Chief Mike Owens said they were immediately dispatched to a fire in the Roger Creek Ravine behind the fall fair grounds.

“While they were still cleaning up at the railway car, they were called to an explosion and ensuing fire in Roger Creek on the Scott Kenney Trail,” he said. “Crews found a tree and some adjacent wildland on fire and so the same two crews went ahead and actioned that fire as well.”

The cause of the reported explosion has not been determined.
