The man killed in Wednesday’s helicopter crash near Sayward has been identified as Brent Fedirchuk of Port Alberni.
The 50-year old father and husband was respected and loved in the local sports community and Island logging circles.
He was considered one of the best helicopter pilots in the province by those who worked with him.
It appears mechanical issues may have played a role in the crash as Fedirchuk apparently radioed to workers on the ground that he had a problem and then issued a mayday call.
Sayward RCMP, the B.C. Coroners Service and the Transportation Safety Board are all working on the investigation.
