Owners of the Hollies golf and RV park say they were shocked to learn their temporary use permit had expired in May of 2020, and campers and trailers must now be removed by the end of June.
Heather MacDonald said the permit expired during the beginning of the pandemic, and no one had advised them about the need to renew.
“I deeply, deeply regret that the original Temporary Use did expire without us being aware of it,” she said. “We’ve paid a hefty price for that, and I’m very regretful that we couldn’t make something awesome work for the community here.”
Regional District directors voted against renewing the temporary use permit after the owners violated terms of the initial agreement, including the number of trailers and campers parked at the site
MacDonald said they will be asking the ACRD to rezone the property to allow a permanent RV Park to be built, and will also expand ALR designation on the golf course to allow for a switch to farming.
“Now we’re going for a full rezoning because the ACRD is having a massive zoning review for all the parcels,” she said. “It’s not zoned as for what ALR uses are and we are hoping to bring it all into line so it’s nice and tidy for everyone.”
MacDonald said her family owns other RV parks in Parksville and in the Interior.
