The uptown redevelopment grant has funded six bear-proof garbage cans around the 3rd and Argyle area.
The heavy-duty steel cans cost $3000 each, and are decorated with archival photos of the area.
Parks and Recreation Manager Amy Needham says she poured through old photos in the museum archives, trying to match the views.
“We worked with the museum to parallel the 3rd Avenue historical views with the views that people would be looking at today, as closely as possible,” she said.
Needham said other city garbage cans are being retrofitted to be bear-proof, and will be painted by ADSS art students.
