$2 million Ladder Truck approved

City Council has approved purchasing a new $2 million firetruck.
Mayor Sharie Minions said the 100-foot ladder truck is needed for the growing city.
“We’re at a point that now where we need that truck and really happy the fire department has done a great job of really determining what we need in our community now, but more importantly what we’re going to need in our community as it continues to change,” she said.
Minions said councils have been putting off the purchase since she was first elected 7 years ago, and that other cities are paying similar amounts for ladder trucks.
The last ladder truck was purchased in 1997, and while insurance underwriters demand replacement every 20 years, Port Alberni received approval to extend that to 25 years.
