City Council wants to clear the air around commercial cannabis facilities.
Complaints about odours emitted by a few growers has forced the city to bolster bylaws around nuisance properties.
Mayor Sharie Minions said a few bad businesses are preventing more professional growers from coming to town.
“I think we have a really positive and professional cannabis cultivation industry growing in the community and a lot of business owners wanting to come in and set up proper facilities,” she said. “What holds us back in some ways is those old facilities that do not have proper filtration and proper venting, do cause odour concerns and brings down the whole reputation of the industry.”
Minions said they will also be pressuring Health Canada to enforce federal rules around odours produced by commercial cannabis facilities.
