Negotiations are underway that could return the orange bridge to it’s original colour.
Ten years ago the city asked the Ministry of Highways to repaint the bridge over the Somass River back to orange but were told no.
Now, in the spirit of reconcilliation and the orange shirt movement, Tseshaht chief councillor Ken Watts said they are negotiating with the Ministry to explore opportunities for incorporating orange in a phased approach to the bridge and area.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure confirmed the discussions, saying they are committed to reconciliation, and collaboration with Indigenous communities, and are “currently working with the Tseshaht First Nation to develop options for incorporating orange into the structure”.
