The city happily accepted a cheque for $300,000 from the Alberni Valley Community Forest Society yesterday.
The money was from logging that happened in 2020 on their lots located near Taylor Arm.
Mayor Sharie Minions says the city has benefitted from the work of the experienced foresters on the society committee.
“This money is generated from forest revenue, logging in a sustainable and really positive way in our community,” she said. “It is legitimately non-tax revenue that comes to us as a dividend from business revenue from a corporation that the city owns.”
Minions said the last dividend cheque received was for $2 million, which was put towards the purchase of the Somass Mill lands.
There is no immediate plans for this latest payment.
