The Bread of Life, September 2021

Founded as a soup kitchen in 1983, and moved to 3rd Avenue by the indomitable Vera Seidel, the Bread of Life Centre was incorporated as a Society in 1997 with a board of directors from churches in the valley. Since that time we have grown from “just a soup kitchen” into a multiple community resource centre with help from volunteers across the valley.

We now serve breakfast and lunch for over 33,000 meals per year. Much of our food comes from a “gleaning” recovery program among local food stores. Our supporters donate more food and organize food drives each year.  We are a local charity –  money is raised locally, spent locally, and we serve local people.
