Paper Excellence sustainability report



Paper Excellence released it’s first-ever sustainability report this week, highlighting the company’s work to improve environmental standards.
According to the report, the company gets 77 per cent of it’s energy from ­biomass and another seven per cent from renewable hydro electricity.
They say ­greenhouse gas emissions have dropped 60 per cent since 1990, but admit a large part of the reduction was due to curtailments at some of its operations.
Here in Port Alberni, Paper Excellence has 310 employees, pays $36.7 million in salaries, wages and benefits, and $4.4 million in taxes.
$13 million capital improvement project will be completed within the next few months making food grade paper the bulk of local production.
According to vice-president Graham ­Kissack, the report is designed to ­better introduce the company to neighbours, customers, regulators and stakeholders.
