Alberni EOC gets funding

The province is providing $150,000 for Emergency Operations Centres to help North Island communities prepare for emergency events.

The Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District received the largest portion – almost $39,000.

Protective Services Manager Heather Zenner says the money will go towards specialized training and equipment.

“Some of the funding has been used to train staff and emergency agencies in the valley,” she said. “Other funding will be used to purchase a portable sattelite radio as well as purchasing a mobile emergency operations centre kit, which will allow us to move our EOC should the building at the Regional District not be available.”

The funding is provided through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund for programs to enhance the safety and resiliency of communities.
