Women in danger now have access to free phones through Rogers Communications.
The program will be administered locally through transition houses, according to Alberni and Community Women’s Service Society executive director Ellen Frood.
“A phone line is a critical piece of communications to help keep women safe,” she said. “We haven’t previously have access to phones, it’s not something we ever had funding for, so this donation is really impactful.”
Frood says domestic violence continues to affect hundreds of people in Port Alberni, and the digital lifeline program will improve safety options for women throughout the west coast.
