With the renaming of A.W.Neill School still on the table, a new name is being put forward.
With the recent passage of retired teacher Winston Joseph, Gloria Baird thinks he would be an obvious choice for the new name.
“If you’re going to change the name of that school anyways, would that not be the perfect person to name it after?” she said. “He exuded multiculturalism, inclusivity and cared about this community. As an educator himself for all those years, if you’re going to choose a new name for the school, why wouldn’t you choose his?”
More than 600 people have signed a petition at change.org
School District Board Chair Pam Craig says they will definitely add that suggetion into the mix when they next discuss the renaming at their May 11th meeting, with a view to having the process complete before the beginning of the next school year.
