City Council passed their 2021 budget and 5-year financial plan yesterday, reducing taxes for homeowners.
According to Mayor Sharie Minions, the current building boom and last year’s overpayment of library fees has led to the decrease.
“So we do have a 3.91% increase to our financial plan this year, but as a result of the library funds that were taxed last year, we are taking the opportunity to give the funds back to the taxpayers so the average taxpayer will now see a reduction of 2.67% in their taxes collected this year,” she said. “The average home will see a reduction of about $55 this year.”
Council also agreed on a compromise on the light industrial tax rate increase, which will be higher than last year, but lower than 2 years ago.
