Two pedestrians killed in past month

An elderly pedestrian was killed yesterday, the second to die within a month.

Port Alberni RCMP say they are investigating, and no charges have been laid, after an 80-year old man was struck inside the crosswalk on Johnson Road at Tebo Avenue yesterday at noon.

Witnesses say he was struck by a GMC pickup truck making a left hand turn.

The Port Alberni man suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital but died.

The driver and sole occupant of the pickup remained on scene and was cooperative with police.

This is the second pedestrian killed within a month, as an elderly man was struck at Argyle and 4th on January 12th. He was transported to a trauma centre but died of his injuries a few days later.
