Judge doubles proposed sentence

A 41-year old Port Alberni man has been sent to prison after pleading guilty to sexually touching four young girls.

Colin Hall was charged with 7 counts of sexual assault, 6 counts of sexual interference, and three counts of invitation to sexual touching involving someone under 16 years of age.

Defence and Crown Counsel negotiated a joint submission of two years less a day, but Judge Alexander Wolf took the rare step of ignoring the settlement, and doubling it to four years in a federal penitentiary.

Hall, who most recently worked as an LPN at Trillium Lodge in Parksville, committed the crimes between 2017 and 2019 while living at the Kings Court Apartments on Kendall Avenue.

In sentencing, Judge Wolf told Hall that communities have long memories, and he may never be forgiven by the community, but federal prisons offer better programs for potential rehabilitation.
