The School District is bracing for a million dollar budget cut because of a decrease in student enrollment this year.
Superintendent Greg Smyth says there are 230 fewer students enrolled in standard classrooms this year, but 125 more enrolled in distributed learning programs.
He said administrators are in talks with parents who are home schooling because of COVID-19, and they’re in the process of verifying enrollment numbers ahead of the October 30th deadline.
The district could apply for provincial funding protection, but said the board “will need to rethink operationally”.
