Qualicum Beach man surrenders to police

A man from Qualicum Beach turned himself into Port Alberni RCMP for his role in a racist assault on the Tseshaht First Nation.
The Tuesday morning event has attracted National media attention, after unknown non-residents in a white pickup truck drove through the community, causing a disturbance by throwing debris, and yelling racist and derogatory comments.
No one was injured in the incident, however witnesses in the community captured the truck and occupant behaviours on video and posted it to social media
The Port Alberni Detachment Frontline and Indigenous Policing Section actively investigated the incident.
The Qualicum man was arrested and has cooperated with the investigation.
He was later released from custody on conditions to protect the Tseshaht First Nations and residents and prevent further offences with a court date to be determined.
