Port Alberni RCMP are investigating a racist attack on the the Tseshaht First Nation early yesterday morning.
A group in a white dodge diesel pick-up drove through the community, shouting racist taunts and chants, some of it caught on video and posted on facebook.
Sgt. Peter Dionne said unfortunately the complaint came in hours after the event, as they would have had a better chance of catching the culprits quickly if it had been reported immediately.
Port Alberni Mayor Sharie Minions met with Tseshaht Chief Councillor Cynthia Dick and they released a joint statement against the attack.
Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council president and former Hupacasath Chief Councillor Judith Sayers said racist incidents are far too common in the Alberni Valley, and she hopes the video becomes a teaching tool.
