A new funding opportunity from the provincial government has the city and the local arts council excited.
With 100% funding up to $4 million from the BC Government, the Alberni Arts Council is planning to apply for an early childhood arts centre at the Rollin Gallery.
Mayor Sharie Minions says it’s an excellent opportunity to expand child care programs in the valley.
“Up to $4 million available and no municipal contribution needed, so that’s a really unique opportunity to come about,” she said. “It’s really exciting to see the arts council coming forward with a concept for a very unique child care facility in our community.”
Proponents say the facility would also provide opportunities to North Island College students studying early childcare education and give them local practicum placements.
