Bird sentenced for serious assault

One of Port Alberni’s most violent offenders – David Daniel Bird – was sentenced to 4-years jail on Friday.

The 40-year old pled guilty to kidnapping David Williams in December 2018, tying him up and hitting him in the head multiple times with a stamp hammer over a ten hour period.

Williams lost 5 teeth and a piece of scalp in the attack.

Bird pled guilty to similar charges in 2006, 2014, 2016 and 2018 and was sentenced on assault with a weapon and unlawful confinement charges related to the latest attack.

38-year old John Sorensen was a co-accused in the attack, and was sentenced to a year in jail for his supporting role in the assault.

Bird will be on probation for three years after release, and will live with his mother at Sarita Bay.
