ACRD increases budget

Alberni Clayoquot Regional District directors accepted an 8.5% budget increase during a special meeting earlier this week.

CEO Doug Holmes said that increase is applied differently in the 13 areas, with Ucluelet seeing the largest increase at 13% and Port Alberni among the lowest at 0.3%.

He said a quarter of the increase is related to the new transit system being established on the West Coast.

Vehicle purchases and some capital expenditures were pushed into 2021, while emergency response programs saw budget increases to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

The City of Port Alberni will hold a special meeting on the municipal budget on Monday, which will be live streamed on the city’s website and YouTube page.
