The Alberni – Clayoquot Regional District has opened their emergency operations centre in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
ACRD CAO and EOC Coordinator Doug Holmes says he is taking direction from the federal and provincial governments, and while Island Health is not saying if there are any COVID cases in the Alberni Valley, we should assume that there is.
“Assume that it’s here, assume that we have to keep our distances from one another, and then undertake all of the handwashing regimes, social distancing, and stay at home whenever possible,” he said.
Holmes said because the virus can live on hard surfaces, they have closed all municipal and regional district playground facilities.
School District 70 will be announcing a similar closure of their playgrounds later today.
